How to rehydrate dried mushrooms.

You can enjoy dried mushrooms any time you want because they are available all year round. If you happen to find a recipe that requires the use of fresh mushrooms and they are not available in your area, you can always buy them online.  Just follow the steps below to rehydrate your dried mushrooms and you will be able to use them as substitutes for  fresh mushrooms.

One more thing you will need to know is the ratio of dried mushrooms to fresh. This will help you decide how much dried mushrooms you will need to rehydrate. Usually you need around 8 – 10 ounces of fresh mushrooms to make 1 oz. of dried mushrooms.

Step 1

[one_half last=”no”]Place dried mushrooms in medium size bowl. Pour warm water in the bowl to cover the mushrooms and let them sit for a minimum of 30 minutes.  The mushrooms will begin to absorb the warm water and will change in size.[/one_half]re hydrate step 1[one_half last=”no”]

After the mushrooms have been soaking for five minutes, agitate the container so any debris or particles  can fall to the  bottom of the container. Two varieties, black trumpets and mousseron, usually require a second soaking & swishing in a new change of water since they grow in sand-prone areas.[/one_half]

Step 3

After the 30 minutes have gone by,  gently lift the mushrooms out of the water using  a strainer.[/one_half]

Now the mushrooms are clean, plumped and ready to use.[/one_half]

This last step in not necessary  but you can do it in order to get mushroom stock.  Strain the water that is left on the bowl using a coffee filter or a really fine mesh strainer. [/one_half]
